Enjoy a unique yoga workshop inspired by the Museum’s connections with the natural world, followed by healthy drinks and snacks and an exclusive visit to the Walter Rothschild collection before the museum opens to the public.

Tune in to your own breathing to energise your body, before moving through a series of ancient yogic movements and poses that connect with the Museum’s collections and ties to the natural world. Each workshop will have a different theme drawing on the current seasons wisdom, see details below.

December can be a hectic time of the year where social calendars are crazy, family demands are high, and the candle is being burned at both ends!

“Let us nurture the spirit of renewal and embrace the light of the lengthening days”

Based around the ancient Celtic festival of Imbolc, the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox, during this retreat we will take time to contemplate the seeds we may have sown during the dark days of winter. Imbolc is the time of new beginnings, snowdrops, the very first faint stirrings of the spring to come. You are invited to let yourself be nourished by movement and breath, and begin to ready your body and your spirit for the spark of new life and inspiration.

Join us for a whole day of relaxation, rejuvenation, and connection with yourself and nature. The day will be filled with energising and nurturing yoga practices, mindful (possibly barefoot!) walking in the forest, delicious homemade healthy lunch and a deep yoga nidra session. Woodland Yoga is excited to be offering monthly, half day experiences of yoga, meditation, pranayama and the chance to connect to the rhythms and cycles of the natural world. Our next one on Sunday 11 Nov, 10.00-13.30 will focus around nurturing our body, mind and soul so that we can enter the winter time with clarity, focus and a general feeling of wellness. We will share tips and techniques that you can use throughout the winter to maintain this wellbeing that will help you to welcome in winter rather than wish it away.

These mini retreats give you the time and space to move deeper into your practice and will help you to feel blissfully rested, inspired and energised. We will explore a three-part yoga practice; an energetic playful flow to awaken the bodies subtle energy system followed by a series of yin yoga poses to reconnect, find stillness and allow our renewed energy to replenish, restore and heal, followed by a short mindful walk (possibly barefoot!) at Heartwood Forest.

Winter Solstice – welcoming the light back in

Around the time of the Winter Solstice we get ready to welcome the light back in – the longest night of the year will soon pass and we’ll slowly see the days become longer. For centuries it has been a time of reflection, but today the run up to Christmas can be a hectic time of doing, leaving us feeling stressed and depleted. During this retreat we will use the practices of yoga (asana, meditation, and chanting) in the healing natural environment of Heartwood Forest to revitalize the body and calm the mind. Together, we will focus our attention on being rather than doing.

So why not join us as we prepare to close out the year, welcome in new intentions and ground ourselves for the coming festive season. This two hour workshop will combine intention setting, a flowing dynamic practice around our camp fire, a deeply relaxing yin practice in our beautiful bell tent, and a guided meditation to re-centre the mind and body.

Date and Time: Saturday 15 December 2018, 11.00-13.00

Schedule:
10.45-11.00 Meet in the Heartwood car park for registration
11.00-12.15 Workshop begins in our yoga circle with meditation around our camp fire and a dynamic vinyasa flow practice
12.15-13.00 We start to slow things down inside our beautiful bell tent where we will practice deeply grounding and nourishing yin yoga followed by a relaxing yoga nidra meditation
13.00 Head back to civilisation with a renewed sense of spirit, ready for Christmas and the New Year!

What to wear/bring: Lots of thin layers (maybe waterproofs), yoga mat and blanket
